So, what is more risky – taking a bath or flying on a plane? We all will die of something.  Here are the odds of dying of various causes during your lifetime (2013 statistics):

  • Odds of Dying:   1 in 1
  • Heart disease:   1 in 6
  • Cancer: 1 in 7
  • Smoking Related:   1 in 9
  • Chronic lower respiratory disease: 1 in 27
  • Stroke:  1 in 28
  • Obesity-related: 1 in 35
  • Intentional self-harm: 1 in 97
  • Unintentional poisoning and exposure to noxious substances: 1 in 103
  • Motor vehicle accidents: 1 in 113
  • Falls: 1 in 133
  • Assault by Firearm: 1 in 358
  • Pedestrian hit: 1 in 672

  1. Spiders and snakes don’t really kill many people.  Neither do sharks.
  2. We should be most concerned about heart disease, cancer, and other 21st century diseases.
  3. Infectious diseases are not material causes of death.
  4. Take lifestyle steps to decrease your risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke and other diseases.
  5. get a flu shot
  6. Flying is really safe.
  7. enjoy everyday
