This weekend my blog hit a milestone: one million total page views! I began The Interesting Fact of the Day on Groundhog Day 2017, and since then, I’ve posted 958 IFODs (this is number 959).
I am humbled that so many people have read my blog. Six years ago, the idea that I’d ever hit one hundred thousand views — let alone a million — was fanciful.
But, as cool as I think it is to have one million views, I realize that in the grand scheme, it’s tiny. My friend’s daughter had a single Tik Tok video get over a million views. Top blogs get millions of page views a week — my blog took six years.
But my goal isn’t clicks and views. I have no plans to monetize The IFOD. Learning, researching, and writing scratches an itch for me. I’m glad anybody other than my mother reads it (I know you are always there for me, mom!).
For the first few years, I religiously wrote the IFOD every weekday. In 2020, at the urging of my therapist, I let it slide to 4 days a week, and then when I began writing my book, my pace dropped to about two a week, where it remains, which feels less frenetic and more sustainable.
Here are the IFODs that I think are some of the best:
What Happens to a Bullet Shot Straight Up in the Air?
Ikigai — The Japanese Approach to Cultivating Life’s Purpose
Congrats! I love these IFODs. I don’t like to admit it but it’s one of the few things I read regularly aside from the Wall Street Journal (is “good news and business idea” sources an idea for a new IFOD?).
Keep up the good work.

(Yeah, that’s just my social media name – what do you think?)

Yes, John, your mother reads the IFod .and congratulates you not only for 1 million hits but congratulates you for being a lifelong learner… and finding vehicles to share with others. You started teaching me as a young child and have never stopped!
Well deserved! Always worth the time spent.
Congratulations! I became a regular reader of The IFOD and looking forward to keeping reading – Thank you!
Congrats! Always a great read!
A big Congratulations to you!! And I like the slower pace also. Perfect–just perfect.
